Europe Ramps Up Investment in Women’s Sport

Europe is experiencing significant investment in women’s sports, particularly in football, as governments, organisations, and private investors acknowledge its social and commercial significance. This movement is evident in key strategies and funding programs initiated throughout the continent.

    UEFA’s ‘Unstoppable’ Strategy (2024–2030)

UEFA has unveiled a six-year plan to boost women’s football, aiming to create a sustainable ecosystem following record viewership growth, including a 96% increase in viewers for the 2023 Women’s Champions League final.

Key elements of the strategy include:

    • €1 billion investment into women’s football, with €66 million allocated through the HatTrick programme.
    • A new second-tier European club competition to expand international play opportunities.
    • Grassroots development, with support for national associations, increased pitch access for girls, and expanded UEFA Playmakers programmes.
    • Career pathways for players, coaches, and referees, including mentorship and talent identification programmes.

These efforts mark a significant shift toward sustainable growth, increased professionalism, and broader visibility for women’s sports across Europe and beyond. More info on the following link link
